Did you know you can make Easy Instant Pot Seasoned Chicken? It’s great for eating as-is, but it’s also wonderful for using in recipes or freezing for later!
It took me a long time — like, nearly a year — to really find a groove with my Instant Pot. I just didn’t take the time to figure it out. Even during that time, though, I was still using it regularly to make chicken.
We eat a lot of shredded chicken. While we rarely have it as a main dish, I use it often as a condiment of sorts, an ingredient in our meal, like these Baked Green Chile Chicken Taquitos. You’ll almost always find a container of seasoned shredded chicken in our fridge for use in recipes or just for whipping up a chicken and cheese quesadilla.

In the last year, all of that chicken has been prepared in the Instant Pot. Here’s the beauty of Easy Instant Pot Seasoned Chicken: it’s easy (I know, I said that already), it’s flavorful, it’s fast, and it’s totally customizable. I love that I don’t have to tend the chicken like I would if it was cooking on the stovetop, and it’s ready much faster than if I baked it. The pressure-cooking of the Instant Pot seals in the flavor, and I swap out spices to develop any profile I’d like.
Easy Instant Pot Seasoned Chicken
Ingredients
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 3 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Drizzle half the olive oil in the pan of the Instant Pot. Place the chicken inside in a single layer and drizzle the remaining oil over the top.
- Sprinkle half of each seasoning over the chicken, turn the chicken over, and sprinkle with the remaining seasoning. Add the water to the pot and put the lid on, making sure the went is set to “sealing.”
- Set the Instant Pot to “poultry” for 13 minutes. Allow the Instant Pot to do it’s thing and release naturally. When that’s done, carefully remove the lid and cut the chicken to check that it’s done.
- Serve the chicken warm, or dice it, or use a mixer to shred it. The cooked chicken can be used in recipes, stored in the fridge for up to three days, or frozen for later use.
Notes
- The possible seasonings you can use on this Easy Instant Pot Seasoned Chicken are endless. I love to use cumin, chili powder, and garlic salt.

You can never go wrong with a great tasting chicken dish. I have not hopped on the Instant Pot band wagon yet. This looks like a great dinner for any night of the week. I’m sure the whole family would love it.
Thank you, Gloria! I requested my Instant Pot on a whim a birthday gift and now I’m so glad I did.
What an easy meal! Perfect for when you need a great meal without a lot of fuss!
Totally, Jenni! This chicken is the epitome of “set and forget,” which I’m a HUGE fan of!
I STILL do not have an instant pot, but it looks like they can do anything.
Truthfully, I wouldn’t have one either if they hadn’t been on sale for Black Friday at the same time my mother-in-law asked what I wanted for my birthday. Now I’m loving it, and I’ve yet to discover what it can’t do!
I’m so glad I found this recipe, like you I have been toiling with my instant pot for about a year. I have had a few success, but many more failures and I haven’t been able to get boneless breast of chicken to work yet. I am totally trying this method this week. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
I think you’re going to love it, Abra! I seem to have found my groove with my Instant Pot and cant seem to stop using it!
I love using my Instant Pot, too! I usually go the shredded chicken route, but this looks like a great way to be able to just slice and enjoy it. It looks absolutely succulent!
I almost never eat it whole, either, but my husband loves it, and the shredded chicken I get from it is SO good.
Yum! The chicken looks so flavorful and tender! We love our instant pot and I love how simple it is. Especially when there’s only one pot to clean up afterwards!
I agree Lauren- one of the best things about using an IP is how little clean up you have to deal with after!
That is some dang good lookin’ chicken … time to get out my instant pot !
It tastes as good as it looks, Tara! You definitely need to make it.
What a great idea to keep shredded chicken on hand. Perfect for a quick lunch or snack. And this chicken looks delicious.
Thank you, Anne! Keeping shredded in the freezer or in the fridge has saved me so many nights at dinnertime.
Dang, that chicken looks super moist! I bet it’s awesome tasting too! And a good tip to make and freeze it shredded!
Thank you, Paige! I love that the chicken comes out nearly perfect every time.
I love our Instant Pot, but I always turn to the slow cooker when I want to shred a bunch of chicken to keep in the freezer. I need to try the IP next – so much faster!!!
Oh yes, you definitely need to use your Instant Pot! It’s way faster, and I bet the pressure cooking seals in flavor and moisture, too.
I haven’t given into the Instant Pot craze, but I do have a pressure cooker that I bought years ago, and I love it. I love a good, simple seasoned chicken. When I need shredded chicken I usually buy a rotisserie chicken at the store, but this looks like a much better idea
I’d probably go the rotisserie chicken route if a store in my tiny town sold them, but I have to make do with this method. It doesn’t take much time and, like you, I love a good and simple seasoned chicken!
This sounds like a great, super useful and versatile recipe. And I FINALLY joined the instant pot bandwagon and can make it! Yay!
Congratulations, Amy! Your life will never be the same (in the best way). I hope you love this recipe AND your new Instant Pot!
I have to get an Instant pot asap! 13 minutes for chicken sounds unbelievable!
Yes, you need one! I love mine!
