Spiked Strawberry Lemonade

June 29, 2017 by Abby

With from-scratch strawberry sauce, homemade lemonade, and the liquor of your choice, Spiked Strawberry Lemonade is the perfect drink to cool down with this summer.

I don’t drink much alcohol. As I often tell people, I’ve spent much of my nine legal drinking years pregnant, broke, or both. Neither condition is conducive to cocktails, so I haven’t done the recipe experimentation a lot of my foodie friends have.

I got to dabble in cocktail creation during our recent trip to Oregon. I still had some ideas floating around when we returned home, but instead of my mom’s stocked liquor cabinet, I had one lonely half-bottle of below average vodka in the freezer from that one time I made homemade vanilla extract. There was also a carton of gorgeous strawberries in the refrigerator, so this Spiked Strawberry Lemonade was born.

Homemade Strawberry Lemonade

June 6, 2016 by Abby

You don’t have to head to your favorite restaurant to get an over-priced glass of this stuff. You can whip up a sweet, refreshing glass of homemade strawberry lemonade at home.

Strawberry lemonade has long been a favorite drink of mine. When we lived in Oregon, one of our favorite inexpensive date night restaurants was Red Robin. I’m addicted to their fries, and their freckled lemonade never ceases to brighten my day.

Now that we live in Mississippi, the closest Red Robin is more than three hours away. I’m sure there are other, closer restaurants that serve it, but I don’t need them anymore. I perfected this homemade strawberry lemonade more than three years ago and I haven’t looked back since.

I grab a pound of strawberries and whip up a batch to celebrate the start of strawberry season every year, and I spend the rest of the spring and summer looking for any excuse to make it again. I tend to keep a pitcher of homemade lemonade in the fridge, making the whole recipe that much easier to throw together.

This homemade strawberry lemonade gets rave reviews from everyone I serve it to. The lemonade itself is wonderfully tart, with a perfect balance of sweetness. With the addition of the flavorful strawberry sauce, the whole thing is refreshing and sweet and drinks like a glass of summer.

Homemade Lemonade

This summer, ditch the canned powder and make your own homemade lemonade. With just three simple ingredients, you can enjoy a refreshing glass any time.

This summer, ditch the canned powder and make your own homemade lemonade. With just three simple ingredients, you can enjoy a refreshing glass any time.

There’s nothing more refreshing on a warm summer day than an ice-cold glass of homemade lemonade.

This recipe is so simple to make. I usually keep a jar of simple syrup in the fridge throughout the summer so I’m always ready to whip up a pitcher- or even just a glass- of homemade lemonade. It’s especially good with fresh-squeezed lemon juice, but, really who has time- or money- for that? I use the bottled version and I’ve never had any complaints. Plus, it means there’s no trip to the grocery store standing between me and a glass of this.

So many people are used to powdered or bottled versions of lemonade. Those varieties might do in a pinch, but this homemade recipe is so simple to make. Wow the guests at your next summertime gathering by throwing together a batch of homemade lemonade.

This summer, ditch the canned powder and make your own homemade lemonade. With just three simple ingredients, you can enjoy a refreshing glass any time.

Homemade Lemonade

Ingredients

2 c. sugar
10 c. water, divided
2 c. lemon juice

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and two cups of water. Stir together and bring to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally. When the mixture boils and the sugar is dissolved, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool. Store cooled mixture in a sealed container in the refrigerator until you’re ready to mix up the lemonade.

To make the lemonade, combine the remaining eight cups of water, the lemon juice, and one and half to two cups of simple syrup in a large pitcher. Stir together well and adjust the amounts of simple syrup or lemon juice based on your preferences. Serve chilled over ice.

Strawberry Lemonade Granita

May 11, 2016 by Abby

With just three ingredients and no special equipment needed, this strawberry lemonade granita recipe will become your favorite summertime treat.

strawberry lemonade granita3

I used to watch Food Network when I was home sick from school. I loved Ina- weird, I know- I didn’t care for Rachel Ray, and I always enjoyed Giada. My mom was put off by her Bratz doll hair and the amount of cleavage she showed, but I loved the food she cooked. One of the things I remember watching her make several times is frozen granitas.

I don’t recall a single recipe she used, or even the technique really. Mostly, I remember Giada putting the concoction in the freezer and scraping it with a fork a few times over the next several hours until a fluffy, mostly-frozen treat emerged. When I realized recently that I wanted to channel my strawberry obsession into a granita, it brought back memories of watching Giada make them.

I just made this recipe up as I went. It’s based on my homemade strawberry sauce, so I only made a couple tweaks. The end result is a sweet and wonderfully tart icy treat. The berries are the star with their bright flavor, but the lemon is right there, too, offering the ideal amount of pucker. The entire strawberry lemonade granita is light, refreshing, and the perfect way to beat the heat this summer.

With just three ingredients and no special equipment needed, this strawberry lemonade granita recipe will become your favorite summertime treat.
