In the interest of sharing more of the day-to-day life of the Winsteads (not that anyone has asked for that), I’m jumping on-board the Five on Friday train for the very first time. Here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to this last week:
Five on Friday: Happy Baby, High School Tennis, and HelloFresh
Happy Baby
Our sweet little Q is nine months old as of yesterday! As with every month, I can’t believe how big she’s getting. She currently loves sitting on the floor surrounded by toys and cruising around in her walker. She’s seriously the happiest baby I’ve ever known.
High School Tennis
I took G and Q with me to watch the high school tennis team play on Tuesday. I didn’t snap any pictures because, hello, six-year-old and infant, but we had a blast. We watched several of my students play, G ran around a little, and Q, as always, smiled at everyone who even almost made eye contact. It was a successful trip made even better with a stop at Flitter & Flo’s for our first snow cones of the season.
S-Town
I’m a huge fan of podcasts, especially the true crime genre. I’m currently obsessed with a new one called S-Town. It’s from the people behind Serial, and all seven episodes dropped on Tuesday. I’m already four episodes in and it’s taking all I have to not binge-listen to the next three. I have no idea where this story is going, but I’m loving the rich characters and the compassionate narrator.
HelloFresh
We got a coupon in the mail last week for a discounted box from HelloFresh. It arrived this week and I immediately made the New York Strip Steak with Truffled Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans Amandine. The beans were the best I’ve had in a while, the potatoes were perfectly smooth and just a little chunky — my preference — and the steak. Oh, the steak. I don’t care much for red meat, but even I found it amazing. J, who has eaten a lot of steak in his lifetime, declared it, “some of the best I’ve ever had.” Seriously.
Next up: Lemongrass Pork Burgers with Carrot Fries and Sriracha Mayo and Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Lemony Potatoes and Zucchini. In all honesty, HelloFresh is not something included in our usual budget. We love the meals, though, so I jump on most coupons we’re offered. If you’re curious about HelloFresh, you can try it using this link and get $40 off (if you order, I get $20 off my next box).
Maple-Frosted Donuts
I made Maple-Frosted Baked Donuts with the middle school and high school girls at church on Wednesday night. Maple donuts are a staple in the Pacific Northwest, but I rarely find them here in The South. Most of the girls had never tried anything maple-flavored, but the donuts were totally a hit. They didn’t even complain that they weren’t fried!
Oh my goodness Q is so adorable. I’m not sure if any of the local high schools here have tennis as part of the sports program. I know my alma mater doesn’t but does have fishing. I’m not sure if I’ll try one of the meal delivery programs because I’m a weirdo who enjoys grocery shopping. Maple doughnuts are a thing in Southern California too. I haven’t been able to find a good maple bar since we moved which is sad because they are my favorite doughnut.
You should try HelloFresh! I enjoy grocery shopping, too, but I live in a rural area, so I love getting these boxes full of unique ingredients I can’t find around here. Maple bars are my favorite part of trips back home to Oregon!
What a lovely week! I cannot believe baby Q is getting so big — so sweet! I’ve heard awesome things about HelloFresh, and those donuts… OMG. 😀
Thanks, Erin! It really turned into a great week.
She is so adorable, Abby! And that dinner definitely looks awesome!
Thanks, Cristi! As good as that meal was, the next night’s was even better.
Hello Fresh intrigues me. We may have to try! Those doughnuts look awesome and Q is so cute!!
Thanks, Kelsie! Y’all should try it. The pork burgers we had last night were one of the best things I’ve eaten in a LONG time.
Quinn is SO adorable! Love the bows in her “hair”. 🙂 I love podcasts too – I’ll have to check that one out
Thank you! She has WAY more hair than her siblings did at her age, but we’ll still have to be all about the headbands for a while. You should definitely try S-Town! It’s different, but SO good.
Those donuts have me hungry now, and Q is soooo cute! So full of joy, too! 🙂
Thanks, Abbey! Joyful is the perfect way to describe that little chick.
